NVME Awards Marketing Mini-Grant in Western Maine

Dean and Deborah Richmond standing outside a red bard.

Congratulations to Pleasant River Farms in Mason Township for being selected as our Western Region’s Marketing Mini-Grant recipient for November 2016!

Dean and Deborah Richmond started this family farm ten years ago with a small herd of cattle.  This farm specializes in organic, grass-fed beef. They are currently the only Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association (MOFCA) certified organic beef producer in Oxford County. To meet their commitment to producing organic beef for their customers, they have partnered with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Sunday River Ski Resort, and Mount Abrams Ski Area to divert their food waste stream to Pleasant River Farm for the purposes of composting.

The funds from the New Ventures Maine Marketing Mini-Grant will be used towards elements of Pleasant River Farm’s marketing plan. The goal is to raise brand awareness of Pleasant River Farms and to increase participation and public awareness of the composting program. The marketing campaign includes educational signs and materials for public participation at the composting sites.

These awardees were selected from a strong group of applicants throughout the western Maine regions. Criteria for the contest included gross revenue criteria and having five or fewer employees. New Ventures Maine is thankful to Norway Savings Bank for providing funding to support this mini-grant.
