New Ventures Maine has hired Alicia LaFosse of Bath as a microenterprise specialist who will advise existing and new small business owners in planning, developing management tools, and practicing entrepreneurial skills. She will be based at the UMA Lewiston-Auburn Center.

Norway Savings Bank Awards Grants to Maine Businesses

Congratulations to New Ventures Maine (NVME) small business grantees from the Western, Midcoast, and Southern regions. Each of the featured businesses below have received Jobs for New England Recovery Grants of $5,000 each from Norway Savings Bank. Supporting Encore Entrepreneurs

Our Microenterprise Specialists have supported over 200 encore entrepreneurs exploring self-employment opportunities through the AARP Foundation’s Work for Yourself@50+ program. The AARP Foundation has provided support for NVME to deliver the program in Maine since 2016. Older adults joining the program assess their skills, gain knowledge, and connect with resources to make an informed decision about starting a business. Work For Yourself@50+

New Ventures Maine has launched an initiative, Work for Yourself@50+ Taking the Next Step to support low and moderate-income adults, age 50 and up, as they explore self-employment and develop businesses. Taking the Next Step builds upon the exploration of self-employment through AARP Foundation’s Work for Yourself@50+ curriculum and provides individualized assessment, advising, and business training to entrepreneurs ready to implement their business ideas. The Midcoast Center for New Ventures Maine awarded a marketing mini grant in the amount of $1,000.00 to Apple Creek Farm in Bowdoinham.  The farm is a MOFGA certified, second generation organic farm operated by Abby Sadauckas and Jake Galle.
