Making a Career Leap

Are you pondering a career change? Approximately 51% of U.S. adult workers are likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months, according to a March, 2022 Bankrate jobseeker survey. Call it the Great Resignation or the Great Reshuffle; American adults are in career-change mode.

The first step toward a major career change is self-exploration. This can lead to enlivening new information about what you can offer employers and what your preferences are as an employee.

Many companies will train new employees who have transferrable capabilities and knowledge that have been developed through work, community, and volunteer experiences, even if they don’t have all of the required technical skills.

Become familiar with your transferrable skills that relate to many different job opportunities. These can be tied to experience in customer service, problem-solving, collaboration, and dependability.

Identifying your true work interests is another strategic step that can lead to surprising new self-knowledge. Once you identify your particular interest “type,” you can match it to job fields and positions you may not have considered yet.
