NVME recently hired Kim Donovan to the position of workforce specialist to provide career planning and financial education classes and individual coaching to participants statewide. Her office is located at the UMA Bangor campus.
Kim brings to her position extensive experience in case management for workforce and behavioral health organizations, in both leadership roles and working in direct service with diverse populations. Prior to joining NVME Kim spent seven years in workforce development roles at Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC) in Bangor, most recently serving as the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) program director. She also spent 14 years working for Community Health & Counseling Services in Bangor, where she served as a family specialist (Kinship Care), clinician (Child and Families ACT Program), mobile crisis worker (Adult Services), project manager (PBHCI/SAMSHA Grant) and program supervisor for the Adult Behavioral Health Home Program.
When asked what excites her about her new position at NVME, Kim said, “I enjoy assisting individuals with identifying their goals, recognizing their own learning process, and making connections to organizations and resources that might benefit them in achieving their goals. Over the years and across many age groups, I have observed that when individuals discover their skills and aptitude related to work, and when they begin to leverage their own strengths, their lives begin to move in a positive direction. It’s a privilege to walk that journey with people and I look forward to those opportunities at NVME.”
Kim is also interested in expanding skills and growing in her new position. “Pairing financial education with career-building information makes so much sense! I’m looking forward to learning about the asset management programs and services and developing my skills in those areas.”
She earned a Master’s of Education degree in counselor education from the University of Maine and Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and criminal justice from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. To contact Kim, send an email to kim.donovan@maine.edu or call 207-262-7982.
