I moved from China to the U.S. with my husband almost a year ago. It was a big change for both my life and my career. We were excited to start a new chapter together in Maine. Since moving here, we’ve met so many kind and welcoming people. We’ve also really enjoyed the slower pace of life and all the beautiful places to explore outdoors.

Before moving to the U.S., I spent more than 11 years running my own educational consulting business in China. I worked with executives, professionals, university students, and families. Every client had different goals, so my job was never just about teaching. It was about listening, understanding what mattered to them, and helping them build a plan that fit their needs. Over the years, I learned a lot about building relationships, earning trust, and helping people make important decisions with confidence.

After moving to Maine, one of my biggest questions was, “How do I build a meaningful career here?” I wasn’t just looking for my next job. I wanted to understand how the U.S. job market works, what employers value, and how I could continue growing into a professional who helps people and creates value in a meaningful way. That’s how I found New Ventures Maine.

Through New Ventures Maine, I’ve learned so much more than I expected. I took classes like My Next Career Move, My Money Works, and Tax Readiness for the Self-Employed. Those classes helped me better understand working and living in the U.S., but they also introduced me to local resources and people who genuinely wanted to help.

What I appreciated most wasn’t just the classes—it was the people. Every coach I worked with was patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging. They didn’t just answer my questions. They listened, challenged me to think differently, and helped me see new possibilities. Those conversations gave me more confidence and helped me feel like I wasn’t figuring everything out on my own.

I’m also taking the Venturing Forth class because I’ve always been interested in entrepreneurship. I’m still exploring what my long-term career will look like, and I think that’s okay. The program has helped me better understand my strengths, meet other people with creative ideas, and think more clearly about the kind of professional I want to become. My goal is to build a career where I can create real value for others, build lasting relationships, and become someone people trust when they’re making important decisions.

Looking back, New Ventures Maine has been such an important part of my first year in Maine. It gave me practical knowledge, a supportive community, and the confidence to keep moving forward. I’m truly grateful for everything I’ve learned, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next.
