I had been looking for a job, and wasn’t finding what I was looking for, when a family friend told me about New Ventures Maine.
At my previous job I had worked my way up the company ladder pretty quickly. After three years, I felt like I was no longer learning new things and growing. I felt stuck and wasn’t happy.
When I left, I was scared because I didn’t have something lined up right away. Not knowing what’s next has always scared me, so that was really challenging.
I reached out to NVME and I’m very glad I did.
Working with my coach, I learned a lot. She helped me narrow down possible career opportunities that aligned with my interests and the best way to pursue them.
At my new job as a production assistant at Pot and Pan in Portland, I’m responsible for helping on the production floor wherever we may need help. I could be working in packaging or making candy or making chocolate–there’s a lot of moving parts and I’m doing many different things during my workday. I just finished my first week and I like it.
In the future, I want to pursue coaching soccer. The sport played a pivotal role in my life and contributed to who I am today, so I want to give back.
