40 Stories for 40 Years – Profilee 31
Ros did not have a job and was in the start-up phase of her business when she enrolled in New Ventures Maine’s Venturing Forth class. She wanted to establish a business that would utilize her “specific talents” and that she “could make a living from.”
Ros, a talented photographer and designer, knew that she could turn her passion into profit. Her goals were to write a viable business plan and make a living doing what she loves to do. As a result of taking Venturing Forth, Ros did indeed complete her business plan and is now self-employed. She operates RosWerks, a design and photography business.
To her surprise, she has come to like event photography in addition to other photography genres. She enjoys photographing events like NVME’s 2017 ALL for Women Conference. In addition, she particularly likes working with authors – helping to put their personal stories into print form.
If you are getting ready to start a business, Ros advises, “Take advantage of the resources that are available to you. Understand that nothing is written in stone – and you will need to remain flexible.” She also suggests, “Don’t be too hard on yourself – no matter what happens, the world will keep spinning, and you can recover from challenges.”
Ros sees NVME as the “catalyst” that inspired her to “light a fire.” Now she sparks others with her powerful images.
