New Ventures Maine at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) is recruiting for two full-time Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteers for August 2021 – July 2022. Positions are available in two UMA locations: the Bangor campus, and the Saco Center (in the greater Portland area). We are seeking individuals to support current and prospective students on their way to college and career success. A person in this position will be responsible for building connections throughout the UMA community and work with students to explore careers, manage money while in school, and participate in civic engagement activities. We welcome applications from diverse individuals as we build a strong team, reflecting the communities that make up UMA and University of Maine System campuses and centers.

The successful candidate will have earned some college credit or a degree, and demonstrate skills in the areas of communication, public speaking, writing, and leadership. Program benefits: Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, Childcare assistance if eligible, Relocation Allowance, Living Allowance, Health Coverage if eligible.

NVME Awards 2026 Gilda E. Nardone Scholarships

NVME Executive Director Janet Smith recently announced the recipients of the 2026 Gilda E. Nardone (GEN) Scholarship. Awards of $1,000 each will help defray the cost of college tuition and other expenses for adult learners pursuing higher education during the 2026-27 academic year. Gilda Nardone presented the scholarship awards to students at Making It Happen 2026—an event to celebrate scholarship, entrepreneurship, and leadership—at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) on March 26th.
