Photo of Scott Logan, owner of Chickadee ImageryScott Logan was contemplating a job change when he signed up for a career planning class with New Ventures Maine in 2014. He had spent nearly 20 years working at L.L. Bean and over a decade doing landscaping work, but he was always drawn to creative endeavors. He says, “…my favorite things are photography, videography, music, and being creative on my computer.”

He decided to start an aerial imagery business, but the prospect of launching and maintaining a small business was a bit daunting, and he knew he would need some support. Scott recalled his participation in the career class and discovered that NVME was offering a business planning class, Venturing Forth, and he enrolled.

Scott is now the owner of Chickadee Imagery in Topsham, Maine for which he is a sole proprietor, photographer, videographer, and certified drone operator/aerial photographer.

About his New Ventures Maine experience he adds, “…genuine bonds formed among Venturing Forth participants that endure to this day. We benefited from guest speakers representing a variety of community-based organizations that support new businesses, and Jenn Dobransky was a pleasure to work with as our small business advisor. The class enriched my life in many ways.”

Looking back, Scott says his biggest challenge was persevering beyond self-doubt. When asked about his greatest joy, he also answers, “persevering beyond self-doubt.”

Scott’s initial goal was to start an aerial imagery business. Shortly after, he expanded into real estate interior and exterior photography and video production.

He says if he could give advice to others, he would say, “Accept genuine support where it exists; otherwise be your own advocate and forge ahead!”
