Nancy’s involvement with WWC began with signing up for Basics of Starting a Business. She followed that with New Ventures. Both classes helped her develop her business Coastal Care & Companionship, LLC. She is now a WWC graduate and ambassador and was recently selected to participate in a leadership program in her Ellsworth community. “I can’t believe it!”
What led her to WWC?
In May 2010, 22 years into a great career, Nancy unexpectedly found herself unemployed due to program funding cuts. For Nancy, who had always had a full-time job, this was overwhelming. She realized after some time on the ensuing job hunt that she needed to stop waiting for a job to appear-she needed to create her own. Nancy started to put her business-providing non-medical care for the elderly-together.
At the same time she was attending UMA, attending massage therapy school, re certifying for her CNA. Alot on her plate? Enter WWC!
”I was feeling a bit unsure about my ability to make this all happen and that is where WWC came to the rescue. They helped me with all the important logistics that I was totally lost on, but above and beyond that they provided me with the reassurance that I was on the right track and I could succeed at this endeavor as I have many others…even when it was a struggle to get it accomplished.”
Nancy took on her first client in August of 2012; she recently moved into a lovely new office space and hired two employees. She graduated in May 2013 with her BA in Mental Health & Human Services and was re certified with her CNA license. She is still attending massage therapy school! And she provides employment to people who share her passion for this work.
“I have been able to provide employment for two people to date and that is a great feeling!”
More goals? In 2014 she would like to be able to add 2 more employees. Nancy’s achievements have not gone unnoticed: in addition to representing Hancock County in WWC’s Ambassador Club, she has been chosen to participate in the Hancock County Leadership Program.
WOW!
