Rachel Sukeforth found Women, Work, and Community when she was frustrated, exhausted, discouraged, and exasperated.  She felt she’d tried everything to find a meaningful job in her field without any luck. The jobs that were advertised and matched her education were few and far between. Plus, there was a lot of competition for those jobs. She says, “I wasn’t sure what I could do any more to find a career.”

It was at this point that Rachel took her first course with WWC, Creating Your Future.  “The course allowed me to take stock of my skills, talents, and dreams. The instructor and other class participants were extremely helpful in identifying my strengths and guiding me to numerous options to explore.” As a result, she started volunteering at a social welfare organization with values she shared, becoming an active member. “The course opened up a curiosity in me. But most importantly, the course helped rejuvenate my job search, and I found the confidence I had lost.” Rachel then found work at small business which provided a good match to her education in Environmental Science, advancing from a part time position to Project Manager.

She has been active politically as well. Her volunteer work led to a leadership role in that social welfare organization and, eventually, to being tapped to run for State Representative of her home town. She came in second by 4 votes! “I’ve started to gear up for my second run which will commence in January.”  Last spring she returned to WWC “working on getting a better handle on my finances” with the class My Money Works.
