It’s tax time. With these resources, you can get started on your taxes now and get the support you need along the way.

Free Tax Help
CA$H Maine coalitions around the state will once again be providing free tax preparation assistance to qualifying households. To find your local coalition and learn how to schedule an appointment, visit the CA$H Maine website.

Free DIY Tax Filing
If you’re comfortable preparing your own tax return without assistance, there are ways to do so for free at myfreetaxes.com or on the IRS Free File website.

Tax Credits
For more than 40 years, the Earned Income Tax Credit has made life better for millions of workers. If you qualify and claim the credit, it could be as much as $7,430 from the IRS for some workers. If you or someone you know earned less than $63,698 from wages, running a business or farm, or from Form 1099 MISC, check it out. Use the EITC Assistant, available in late January, to see if you qualify and estimate the amount of your credit. Additional tax credits that could be applicable this year include: the Property Tax Fairness Credit, Sales Tax Fairness Credit, and Student Loan Repayment Tax Credit.

Tax Filing Dates for 2024
The IRS has announced that it will begin accepting and processing individual tax returns on January 29th. April 17, 2024 is the deadline for filing a 2023 federal and Maine individual income tax return.
