Creating Your Future Class Makes Plans

Participants in the Creating Your Future Class, Portland, May 2012

At left, graduates of Creating Your Future in the New Economy work on their Career Action Plans on the last day of class. This diverse group has excellent goals for their future economic success, including finding employment, getting education or training, and volunteering to learn more skills.  The group will reconvene in two follow-up sessions to learn new resume and social networking techniques and to refresh their interviewing skills.

During the 9 sessions of this program, participants examined their current skills and interests and heard from representatives from the health and financial services sector-two economic sectors projecting growth in high-wage jobs. These guest speakers  spoke to the group about employer needs,  kinds of jobs projected to grow. In addition, they shared their individual career experiences and gave resume and interviewing tips.  SMCC’s Amy Lee gave the class an overview of the application process and information about the many degree and certificate programs offered.
